Protests over ousted president Hosni Mubarak's trial verdict

To denounce the electoral commission's decision to schedule a run-off presidential ballot on 16-17 June, following the peaceful conclusion of the first round of elections on 23-24 May. Since no single candidate secured a majority in the initial polls, the second round is set to be contested between Muslim Brotherhood (MB) candidate Mohammad Mursi and Shafiq, who in 2011 served as prime minister under ousted former president Hosni Mubarak (1981-2011).

Groups of students, teachers and citizens asked for entry to the House of the Laws. Authorities closed access to the general public after groups announced plans for a protest against budget cuts and other policies of Gov. Luis Fortuño. Police used pepper spray and brutally clubbed demonstrators with batons and shields.
