June 20-22, 2019: I will present my paper, "Aping Blackness: Visual Resonance and the Politics of Recognition in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia" during the 37th annual International Visual Sociology Association (IVSA) conference at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. I will also be exhibiting some of my photographs.
May 23, 2019: Presented my paper, "Aping Blackness: Visual Resonance and the Politics of Recognition in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia" at the Visual Culture pre-Latin American Studies Association workshop, "The Black Image in 19th Century Latin America" in Boston, Massachusetts.
April 11, 2019: Spring 2019 Latino Studies Research Initiative Symposium at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Dr. Zaire Dinzey-Flores and I will discuss our collaborative research project, “Visibilizing Afro- Latin@s: A Pilot Survey of the Afro-Latin@ Forum.”
April 4-6, 2019: Forced Displacements in the Americas Workshop to be held at Brown University from April 4-6, 2019 as part of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies’ Sawyer Seminar on Race and Indigeneity in the Americas.
